On August 24th and 25th, 2017, Alan Aldana, President of our Foundation and Director of the law firm Alan Aldana Abogados & Asociados, attended the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in Costa Rica.
His participation in the Court took place at Table 3, during the Public Hearing regarding the Advisory Opinion on Diplomatic and Territorial Asylum requested by the State of Ecuador.

Presentation of the Amicus Curiae brief regarding the request for an advisory opinion by the State of Ecuador
On August 24, 2017, Alan Aldana had the opportunity to present an "AMICUS CURIAE" brief during the public hearing of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. The request pertains to the institution of asylum in its various forms and the legality of its recognition as a human right for all individuals, in accordance with the principle of equality and non-discrimination.
Alan Aldana presented the brief on behalf of more than 20 international authorities in the field of Human Rights. Among these authorities are the former President of the United Nations Committee against Torture, as well as internationally renowned academics from the University of Oxford, the University of Oslo, the Sorbonne University, the University of São Paulo, and the Free University of Brussels, among others.
Also included were civil society organizations with a long history in the field of Human Rights protection, most notably the Spanish Association for Human Rights (APDHE), the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), and our own Foundation.
