At ALAN ALDANA & ABOGADOS<\/a> and the Aldana Foundation, we are supporting the promotion and funding of the documentary film \"The Code\"<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Baltasar Garz\u00f3n, the Spanish judge who ordered the arrest of dictator Augusto Pinochet, and more than one hundred prestigious jurists from around the world are working to ensure that major economic, financial, and environmental crimes can be prosecuted internationally. Armed with one tool: Universal Jurisdiction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Judges, prosecutors, and lawyers are working to ensure that, in addition to genocide and war crimes, actions such as speculating on basic food supplies, issuing \"junk bonds,\" squandering public funds, or large-scale pollution can be reported internationally and considered Crimes Against Humanity.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Throughout history, there have been visionaries who understood much earlier than others that slavery, colonialism, or apartheid<\/strong> were not the natural order of things, but rather immoral practices by a minority that should be considered illegal. Today, a judge leads an international movement to help us understand that major economic fraud is not a systemic flaw, but rather a premeditated act by an elite that must be recognized as a crime.<\/p>\n

In Buenos Aires, in September 2015, during the Universal Jurisdiction Congress<\/a>, a new list of crimes against humanity was approved, including the characteristics that classify certain decisions as economic or environmental crimes against humanity. All this effort must reach national legislations. Buenos Aires is the starting point for a group of pioneering men and women, led by Judge Baltasar Garz\u00f3n, to fight to change the current state of impunity by using their talent, imagination, and knowledge.<\/p>\n

On a planet of 8 billion inhabitants, irresponsible economic decisions can be catastrophic. Legal activists want to end impunity, fighting together for the common good and for an end to the impunity of major economic, financial, and environmental crimes.<\/p>\n

Collaborating in explaining the process that the film's protagonists are carrying out for the sake of justice and human rights worldwide is, beyond a privilege and a great responsibility, a major opportunity. Given the historic isolation of judicial powers and their perverse use by political and economic powers, I believe it is of great importance to help bridge the gap between legal language, its representatives, and the general public.<\/p>\n

Democratizing legal language, understanding judicial mechanisms and their actors, and questioning the ways in which these professions are practiced\u2014alongside a selection of more than one hundred renowned international jurists who have united to fight against the impunity of major economic, financial, and environmental crimes\u2014is a noble goal.<\/p>\n

It is a film about heroes, brave jurists, and classic noir film characters.<\/p>\n
